An Osun State High Court yesterday cautioned parties involved in a suit challenging the enthronement of Owa Obokun of Ijesaland, Oba Clement Adesuyi Haastrup, against tactics capable of delaying proceedings, as the legal battle over the revered stool took a fresh turn.

Arimoro Family of Bilaro Oluodo Ruling House had challenged the process of appointment of Oba Haastrup in suit number HL/8/25 and equally prayed the court to stop his coronation, which was not granted.

Yesterday’s hearing could not hold, as counsel for Oba Haastrup pleaded for additional time to file a preliminary objection challenging jurisdiction of the matter.

The presiding judge, Justice J. M. Agboola, warned against delay tactics, noting he would not tolerate unnecessary delays.

Arimoro Family had challenged the coronation of Prince Haastrup as the 41st Owa Obokun of Ijesaland, conducted on May 23, 2025 by Osun State Government. They alleged violations in the selection and coronation process, claiming it did not follow the established tradition and custom of Ijesaland.

The suit, marked HIL/8/2025 at Ilesa High Court, lists Prince Haastrup and 10 others as defendants, namely Oba Clement Adesuyi Haastrup (for himself and the Ajimoko/Haastrup Royal Family), High Chief Ibitoye Folorunsho Adeniyi (Obanla of Ijesaland), Oba Moses Oluwafemi Agunsoye (Elegboro of Ijebu-Jesa), Oba Festus Kayode Awogboro (Alademure of Ibokunland), High Chief Saka Fapohunda (Ogboni of Ilesa), the Agba Ijesa of Ijesaland, Ijesa Central Traditional Council, the Executive Governor of Osun State, the Attorney-General and Commissioner for Justice, the Commissioner for Local Government and Chieftaincy Affairs, Osun State and Ilesa West Local Government.
