Prominent sports and community leaders have thrown their weight behind Dr. MKO Abimbola Abogun’s aspiration for the Ibadan Southwest/Northwest Federal Constituency seat in the House of Representatives, citing his "selfless traits" and political proficiency.

The endorsements were delivered on Wednesday in Ibadan during the 60th birthday and retirement celebration of Mrs. Bukola Owolabi, wife of Nigerian football legend Dr. Felix Owolabi.

Dr. Rafiu Oladipo, President General of the Nigeria Football Supporters Club (NFSC), described Abogun as a politically savvy figure with the capacity to deliver effective representation. Oladipo noted that Abogun’s role as Secretary of the NFSC United States chapter has prepared him for high-level leadership.

“Abogun has shown commitment, organizational competence, and a grassroots connection that clearly sets him apart,” Oladipo stated. “The constituency deserves a representative with his level of exposure and dedication.”

Backing the sentiment, former Super Eagles star Dr. Felix Owolabi emphasized that Abogun possesses the unique ability to bridge local needs with a global vision.

Owolabi told the gathering that effective legislative representation requires a candidate who understands both the challenges of the constituents and the broader perspectives of governance.

The speakers urged voters in the Ibadan Southwest/Northwest constituency to prioritize "people-focused leadership," insisting that Abogun remains the most suitable candidate for the task.

The event attracted a significant cross-section of the sports and political community, including former Shooting Stars defender Idowu Otubusin (popularly known as 'Slow Poison'), Amusa Adisa, and Alhaji Raimi Olatunji Socrates, the former Director of Sports at the University of Ibadan. Other notable attendees included Dr. Abiodun Salami and various community leaders.
