They warned that the planned acquisition of the land would affect their land, bring disaster and economic hardship to the communities and investors in the area.
The communities also noted that several investors, estate developers, finance institutions, oil and gas stations have invested billions of naira in projects at various levels of development in the affected area which would come to naught, stressing that the planned acquisition would lead to displacement of many of the traditional inhabitants and settlers.
Copies of the petition were sent to the Permanaent Secretary, Bureau of Land Services, the Commissioner for Information and Strategy and the Cargo International Airport authorities.
They argued that the public notice issued by the State Bureau of Land Services would adversely affect the four communities that fall within the acquired 200 meters.

The communities are under the apprehension that no fewer than 500 houses, 11 primary and secondary schools, 20 churches and mosques, 18 traditional shrines, six markets, 30 cottage industries, several farmlands and settlements would also be affected.
They also urged the governor to consider the fact that several investors, estate developers, finance institutions, oil and gas stations have invested billions of naira in projects now at various levels of development in the affected area, even as the planned acquisition would lead to displacement of many of the traditional inhabitants and settlers.
”No amount of compensation can redress the welfare, harmony, peace and well-being of the communities, investors and notable institutions in the affected areas”, they argued.
“The entire communities, investors, traditional rulers and regents, stakeholders are passionately pleading with Your Excellency, the people inclined governor to review the planned acquisition of the large expanse of land, with a view to shelving the planned acquisition”, the letter stated.
