Former Special Adviser/Director-General of the Bureau of State Capital Development in Ekiti State, Tope Ogunleye, has declared his intention to contest the House of Representatives seat on the platform of All Progressives Congress (APC).

Speaking during his declaration in Ado-Ekiti, Ogunleye said his decision to join the race for Ekiti Central Constituency 1 was born out of the need to serve the people, adding that the constituents were in need of a competent and purposeful lawmaker.

The APC chieftain, who resigned his appointment recently, noted that his experience in public service and private practice had equipped him with the necessary qualities to effectively represent the constituents’ interests, of promising to prioritise their welfare and developmental need if elected.

Ogunleye emphasised his readiness to leverage his network and legislative understanding to lobby fellow lawmakers and relevant government agencies in attracting meaningful development projects to the constituency.

“I understand the workings of government and the importance of collaboration. I will work closely with my colleagues and key institutions to ensure Ado/Irepodun-Ifelodun benefits from federal presence and developmental initiatives,” he said

He explained that his aspiration was also in response to persistent calls from party leaders, stakeholders, and residents across the constituency, who have urged him to step into the race.

He disclosed that he had played active roles in supporting the incumbent lawmaker during the last two election cycles, noting that his decision to contest was not born out of personal ambition alone, but a collective desire for enhanced representation.

Addressing concerns over possible imposition ahead of the APC primaries, Ogunleye declared his support for a transparent and democratic process, insisting that all aspirants should be allowed to test their popularity at the polls.

He said: “I am ready for a free and fair primary election. There should be no imposition. Let every aspirant go to the field and engage with party members. That is the true spirit of democracy.”

He commended Governor Biodun Oyebanji for the opportunity offered him to serve the state, saying every effort would be deployed in enhancing victory of the governor during the June 20 governorship election.

Chairman of chairmen of the 13 wards in Ado Local Government Area, Omoba Adegoke, lauded the support of Ogunleye to the party in the last few years, expressing optimism in his capacity to represent the constituency.

He said the party leaders and stakeholders would work for a credible primary election for all aspirants towards producing credible and acceptable candidate that would deliver victory for the APC.
