The Arieli Foundation for Maternal and Child Health has strengthened its global advocacy drive with participation at the 70th Session of the Commission on the Status of Women (CSW70) at the United Nations.

Its Executive Director, Dr. Natasha Oyibo, represented the organisation at the summit, which brought together world leaders, policymakers and development partners to address pressing issues affecting women and girls.

Deliberations at the session centred on dismantling financial barriers, promoting women’s leadership and accelerating progress towards the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).

Oyibo took part in high-level engagements, including strategic meetings at the African Union Permanent Observer Mission, where discussions focused on women’s political participation and equitable access to resources.

She also joined an NGO/CSW high-level briefing where stakeholders underscored the need for stronger partnerships and coordinated action to drive progress in women’s health and empowerment.

Speaking on the outcome of the summit, Oyibo stressed the need to align grassroots realities with global policy frameworks.

“Our work at the community level must continue to inform global strategies, while international commitments must translate into tangible impact for women and children,” she said.

Meanwhile, the foundation is set to host its annual Maternal and Child Health Walk, a community-focused initiative aimed at raising awareness on the need for accessible, affordable and quality healthcare for women and children.

The event is expected to draw healthcare professionals, community leaders, women and families, providing a platform to amplify grassroots voices and promote preventive health practices, maternal wellbeing and child survival.

The foundation said the initiative would also serve as a call for stronger collaboration among communities, policymakers and stakeholders to improve health outcomes.

It urged partners and the public to support the programme as part of efforts to reduce maternal and child mortality in Nigeria.

The Arieli Foundation is a non-profit organisation committed to improving maternal and child health through advocacy, community outreach, health education and strategic partnerships.
