An aide to the Minister of Power, Adebayo Adelabu, Comrade Femi Awogboro, has dismissed reports claiming that leaders of the All Progressives Congress (APC), including former governors Adebisi Akande and Olusegun Osoba, asked the minister to withdraw from the Oyo State governorship race.

Awogboro described the reports as unfounded, insisting that both Akande and Osoba remain supportive of Adelabu’s political aspirations and have continued to encourage his pursuit of leadership in the state.

“Chief Akande and Chief Osoba believe strongly in Adelabu’s capacity to uphold progressive ideals in Oyo State. They have consistently supported and encouraged him since his exit from the Central Bank of Nigeria to pursue a career in politics,” he said.

He also refuted claims that APC South-West leaders held a meeting with Adelabu in Lagos to deliberate on his ambition and its implications for party unity and the 2027 general elections, stating that no such meeting took place.

Awogboro maintained that Adelabu continues to enjoy broad support across Oyo State, citing his experience in both the public and private sectors as well as his political track record.

“Adelabu has positively touched many lives. His support for youths, widows, and the less privileged across the state cannot be overemphasized. Despite attempts by some individuals to discredit him, he continues to gain acceptance due to the love people have for him."

Awogboro warned those spreading false information to desist, stressing that no amount of character assassination would deter the minister from pursuing his ambition.

He also urged media organisations to verify the authenticity of reports before publication.

“I appeal to media houses to be cautious and always verify the authenticity of any information before publishing."

Awogboro, however, called on residents of the state to continue supporting the minister, expressing confidence that Adelabu would deliver on his promises if elected.
