Leaders of the All Progressives Congress (APC) yesterday endorsed the senator representing Oyo South, Sharafadeen Alli, as the consensus governorship candidate for next year’s election in the state.
The leaders, who are from Ibarapa sub-zone in Oyo South Senatorial District, said the endorsement was motivated by his leadership qualities and widespread acceptability.
Alli, a former Secretary to the State Government (SSG) and one-time Chief of Staff, currently represents the district in the Senate.

The endorsement was announced at a stakeholders’ meeting to welcome the senator, who was on a consultative visit to the sub-zone.
At the meeting, which was presided over by Chief Alarape Jolaoso, were Apostle Zacchaeus Aderounmu, Chief Dayo Adeola, Chief T. A. Adenrele, Chief Francis Babalola, and Alhaji Olayide Abas.
Also, the three party chairmen, the three women leaders, three youth leaders and local government executive members from the three councils were at the meeting.
The leaders, elders, and grassroots mobilisers expressed confidence in Alli’s capacity to reposition the state for inclusive growth.

Jolaoso noted that Alli’s track record in public service and his deep connection with the grassroots made him the most suitable person to lead the party to victory in 2027.

He said the decision to back the lawmaker was reached after extensive consultations across the three local government areas in Ibarapa, stressing that the zone is united and committed to the “credible and experienced candidate”.
The APC chieftain described Alli as a bridge-builder who has consistently demonstrated loyalty to the APC and “contributed significantly to strengthening the party structure” in Oyo State.
Jolaoso said the endorsement also reflected the growing momentum behind Alli’s aspiration, as more political blocs and interest groups continue to align with his vision for a more prosperous and equitable Oyo State.
Alli, who expressed gratitude to the people of Ibarapa for the show of support, promised not take their trust for granted.
He pledged to run an inclusive administration that would prioritise development across all zones and ensure that no community is left behind in the governance process.
Also in Ibadan, the state capital, Alli donated N10 million and a brand new 18-seater bus to the party to strengthen its operations.
Receiving the bus at the party’s secretariat, the state chairman and former deputy governor, Chief Moses Adeyemo, said the donations would enhance party operations and administrative effectiveness.
Adeyemo applauded Alli’s loyalty, dedication, and consistent contributions, adding that the gesture would improve logistics, coordination and mobility for party engagement across the state.
