One of the youthful aspirants seeking to contest the governorship seat on the platform of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Oyo state, Saheed Oladele, has resigned his membership from the party.

Oladele holds the traditional title of Bameeko of Ibadanland. He said the resignation is with immediate effect.

‎In a letter he personally signed, dated 7th April, 2026, he cited the APC’s inability to give young people the opportunity to lead, but rather preferred to engage them as instruments, as a reason for his resignation.

‎Oladele, who is from Ward 4, Ibadan North Local Government, of the APC, appreciated leaders, stakeholders, and friends with whom he had shared meaningful relationships for the opportunity.

‎The letter reads in part, "‎I write to formally tender my resignation from the All Progressives Congress (APC), a party I have loved, believed in, and diligently served since its inception.

"‎My journey within the party has been one of commitment, sacrifice, and an unwavering dedication to its ideals. As a gubernatorial aspirant, I worked tirelessly, not just in pursuit of personal ambition but in fostering unity, strengthening structures, and building bridges across different interests within our great party.

"My footprints in promoting cohesion and harmony remain evident in the many efforts made to bring stakeholders together under a shared vision of progress for Oyo State.

"‎As a passionate advocate of the youth O’clock movement, I have consistently lent my voice to the aspirations of young people seeking inclusion, relevance, and a future that aligns with global realities.

"I have strived to serve as a bridge between the older generation, who understandably value continuity, and the younger generation, who earnestly desire innovation, growth, and meaningful change.

"‎However, recent developments and party positions have made it increasingly clear that, within Oyo State, the APC is not yet prepared to give young people a seat at the decision-making table, but rather prefers to engage them as instruments without corresponding influence. This reality stands in contrast to the values I hold and the future 1 envision for our people.

"‎While I remain deeply appreciative of the opportunities the party has afforded me, my loyalty to the service of the masses must take precedence over loyalty to any system that does not sufficiently prioritize their advancement and collective good.

"‎In view of this, I hereby resign my membership of the All Progressives Congress (APC), effective immediately.

"‎I extend my sincere gratitude to all leaders, stakeholders, and friends with whom I have worked and built meaningful relationships over the years. The experiences, collaborations, and shared moments will always be cherished.

"‎I remain committed, now as always, to the progress, unity, and development of Oyo State and our nation at large."
