The Onilua of Ilualand in Kajola Local Government Area of Oyo State, Ashiru Oyebisi Olalere, has appealed to Governor Seyi Makinde to urgently reconstruct the Okeho–Ilua–Awaye road, describing its deteriorating condition as a major impediment to economic activity in the area.
The monarch made the appeal while taking part in a community-led initiative involving youths who gathered to patch failed sections of the 25-kilometre road.
He lamented that the road, which has been in poor condition for years, has significantly affected mobility and disrupted commercial activities across Ilualand and neighbouring communities.
According to him, the route was once a key transport corridor linking towns in the Oke-Ogun axis, including Kishi, Igboho, Saki, Ago-Are and Otu, and was previously favoured by commercial drivers due to its convenience and its role in boosting trade.
Oba Olalere expressed concern that the road’s current state has discouraged motorists, particularly commercial operators, leading to reduced economic activity and hardship for residents dependent on trade and transportation.
He urged Governor Makinde to expedite reconstruction efforts, noting that rehabilitation of the road would revive economic life and improve living standards in the region.
The monarch also called on lawmakers representing Kajola and Iseyin/Itesiwaju State Constituencies, Hon. Musbau Azeez and Hon. Dele Adeola, to prioritise the matter and intensify advocacy for government intervention.
He expressed appreciation to the governor, the Commissioner for Local Government and Chieftaincy Matters, Hon. Ademola Ojo, and the Executive Chairman of Kajola Local Government, Hon. Akeem Mustapha, for their roles in his installation.
Oba Olalere further acknowledged past administrations, including former Governors Oba Rashidi Ladoja, the late Alhaji Lam Adesina and the late Chief Adebayo Alao-Akala, for their contributions to development in the area.
He commended the youths, traditional chiefs and residents of Ilualand for their continued commitment to community development and prayed for sustained peace and progress.
