The Oyo State Police Command has arrested 20-year-old Garuba Aminu for the unlawful possession of a suspected human body part.
According to a statement by the Command’s spokesman, Ayanlade Olayinka, Aminu, who posed as a scavenger in the Commercial Oroki area of Oyo, drew suspicion from community members due to his unusual movements and behaviour.
“Acting promptly, concerned residents conducted a search and discovered a cut lower right leg, suspected to be human, inside a large sack containing waste plastic bottles in his possession,” the statement said.

Upon receiving the report, a joint police patrol team, working with other security partners, rushed to the scene where an agitated crowd had gathered, preventing a potential mob action.
"The team professionally dispersed the mob and rescued him from imminent harm, while the suspected human part was recovered as exhibit and secured for forensic and investigative purposes.

"The suspect has since been transferred to the State Criminal Investigation Department for discreet and thorough investigation to unravel the circumstances surrounding the incident.
"The Command appreciates the Inspector-General of Police for his continuous support and strategic leadership which have strengthened proactive policing and community partnership across the country.

"The Command also commends the vigilant members of the public whose alertness and timely action led to the detection and arrest of the suspect. This underscores the importance of community participation in crime prevention and control.
"Residents are advised to remain vigilant and security conscious at all times and to promptly report suspicious persons or activities to the nearest police formation.
"However, members of the public are strongly cautioned against taking laws into their hands or engaging in mob action, as such acts are unlawful and capable of obstructing justice.
"The Oyo State Police Command remains resolute in its commitment to safeguarding lives and property and assures the public of further updates as the investigation progresses."
