Thirty  aggrieved  former agitators  have urged President Bola Tinubu to intervene following alleged refusal by Presidential Amnesty Programme to comply with a court order to pay their stipends.

They threatened to go on an indefinite peaceful protest in Abuja if their unpaid stipends lingers and other issues raised remain unresolved.

The group alleged that a member of Bayelsa state executive council, a camp commandant in the programme, is responsible for their ordeal.

Its leader, Nathaniel Nicholas, who spoke in Yenagoa, Bayelsa, described the stoppage of their stipends for over eight years as “as injustice”.

He said the former agitators, under him, are registered beneficiaries of the programme under Asaraba Pillar Camp, Epebu-Ayama Clan, Ogbia Local Government.

Nicholas regretted that non-compliance with the 19 June 19, 2024, Federal High Court, Lagos, judgment by Justice A.O Awogboro, which directed payment of “outstanding stipends,” has exposed them and their families to hardship and deprivation.

His words: “The beneficiaries, led by Nathaniel Nicholas, have been denied their stipends of N65,000, per person for over eight years, since September 2017 and May 2018. This, despite compliance with requirements of the programme, has subjected these citizens to hardship and deprivation, while also constituting a disregard for the rule of law”.

He said several letters submitted to the office of the administrator of the programme following the court judgement have been ignored and not been acknowledged.

He appealed to President Tinubu to direct immediate compliance with court judgement, protection of rights of beneficiaries and mandate a transparent investigation into the adminstrative actions that led to the prolonged non payment and disregard of judicial authority.
