Amost important area that deserves deep reflection in this season is parenting, because parenting is one of the most powerful platforms through which the kingdom of God is manifested in society.
Parenting can be described as the process of nurturing and guiding a child’s spiritual, physical, emotional, social, and intellectual development from infancy to adulthood. It is not the responsibility of the mother alone, but a joint assignment given by God to both parents. The Bible reminds us “two are better than one” (Ecclesiastes 4:9–10). When both father and mother intentionally participate in raising children, the home becomes a strong foundation for godly character and societal stability.
The family institution was designed by God as the first environment for shaping character. Adam and Eve were entrusted with the responsibility of nurturing the family and managing God’s creation. However, their disobedience disrupted God’s original order and introduced brokenness into the family system. The consequences of that failure are the moral challenges confronting society today.
Many communities witness increasing moral decadence, drug abuse, cultism in institutions of learning, disrespect for parents and elders, violent crimes, and a decline in moral discipline. These realities echo the warning given by Paul to Timothy that in the last days people would become lovers of themselves, disobedient to parents, and lovers of pleasure rather than lovers of God (2 Timothy 3:1–5). These signs often point to a deeper crisis in the family structure.
Scripture teaches that the quality of the fruit reveals the nature of the tree. Jesus Christ said a good tree produces good fruit, while a corrupt tree produces evil fruit (Matthew 7:17–18). In the same way, the moral and spiritual quality of children often reflects the strength or weakness of the parenting they receive.

The Bible provides contrasting examples. Eli was a devoted priest but failed in raising his sons, Hophni and Phinehas, whose misconduct brought shame upon his household and judgement upon his lineage. On the other hand, the godly influence of Lois and her daughter Eunice, shaped the faith and character of Timothy, who later became a respected leader in the early church. Their example shows how faith and discipline can be transferred from one generation to another.
Parents carry a sacred responsibility. Children must not be left entirely to teachers, caregivers, or digital influences. Parents must build strong spiritual foundations in the home. Establishing a family altar, studying the Word of God together, modelling godly character, providing loving discipline, maintaining open communication, and praying consistently for children are essential elements of kingdom-centred parenting.
During Lent, parents are encouraged to pause and reflect on their stewardship over the lives entrusted to them. The future of every nation is shaped in the quiet spaces of the home. When homes are guided by godly values, society becomes more stable, peaceful, and morally sound. As we go through Lent, let parents recommit to raising children to reflect godly character, integrity, and compassion, so through the family, God’s kingdom may be manifested in our communities. May God empower our mothers to do things that are right for His kingdom and not what they like in the name of Jesus
May God grant parents the wisdom, grace, and strength to raise children who honour Him and become blessings to their generation through Jesus Christ. Amen.
