Nigeria’s U-19 Women’s team pulled off a dramatic one-run victory over South Africa in a Super Over yesterday in the ongoing Nigeria Invitational T20i Tournament while Zimbabwe’s Beloved Biza hammered a historic unbeaten century to dismantle Ghana by 180 runs.

In a match that saw the scores level after 40 overs, Nigeria’s Captain Lucky Piety produced a heroic performance to keep the hosts’ campaign alive.

South Africa elected to bat first and, despite a shaky start that saw them at 18/3 after six overs, recovered to post a competitive 133/7. Captain Mieke Van Voorst anchored the innings with a resilient 69 off 47 balls, supported by late contributions from Siphokuhle Masilela (20).

Nigeria’s chase began slowly, reaching just 47 runs by the 10th  over. However, Piety single-handedly shifted the momentum, smashing 66  off 35 balls—including a pivotal 24-run over—to tie the match at 133.

In the ensuing Super Over, Nigeria posted 10 runs without loss. Amusa Muheebat then restricted South Africa to 9/1, securing a narrow win for the home side. Lucky Piety was named Player of the Match for her match-saving knock.

Meanwhile, the day’s second fixture saw Zimbabwe deliver a master class in dominance, setting a new tournament record of 226/2 in their 20 overs.

The charge was led by Beloved Biza, who finished unbeaten on 102 off just 52 deliveries. She was ably supported by Lorraine Pemhiwa, who struck 60 off 32 balls in a relentless display of boundary hitting that left the Ghanaian bowlers with no answers.

Ghana’s response never materialized as they were bundled out for a meagre 45 runs in 18.3 overs. Salem Museka was clinical with the ball, returning figures of 4/8 in four overs, while Biza capped off a stellar individual day by taking 3/10. Zimbabwe’s 180-run victory margin is now the largest in the tournament’s history.
