The Police Community Relations Committee (PCRC) has confirmed the Governor of Jigawa State, Umar Namadi, as the National Patron.

The appointment was made in recognition of his outstanding commitment to peace, security and inclusive governance.

According to the PCRC National Chairman, Alhaji Mogaji Olaniyan, the conferment is historic, as Namadi becomes the first sitting governor to be named National Patron of the PCRC in the organisation’s 42-year history.

He described the honour as a reflection of the Governor’s exceptional leadership and unwavering support for community policing and security collaboration.

The conferment took place during a courtesy visit by the National Chairman of the PCRC, who led a high-powered delegation to the Government House in Dutse ahead of the PCRC State Election and the National Leadership Training Exercise.

Olaniyan explained that the engagement was to formally notify the governor of the organisation’s scheduled programmes in Jigawa State, deepen institutional collaboration, and seek sustained partnership with the state government in advancing community-based security initiatives.

He commended Namadi for the visible developmental strides recorded under his administration, particularly in promoting peace, stability and social cohesion across the state.

The National Chairman also acknowledged the longstanding relationship between the PCRC leadership and the Jigawa State Government, including the Speaker of the House of Assembly, Hon. Haruna Aliyu, describing them as dependable partners in progressive governance and security advocacy.

He appealed for increased government support for PCRC activities, including assistance with operational funding and the provision of official vehicles to enhance mobility and operational efficiency.

In recognition of the governor’s leadership and consistent support for security and community policing, Alhaji Olaniyan formally decorated Governor Umar Namadi with the PCRC National Patronship Award, thereby conferring on him the prestigious status of National Patron of the Police Community Relations Committee, a milestone in the organisation’s four-decade history.

Namadi expressed deep appreciation for the honour, describing the PCRC as a critical stakeholder in Nigeria’s security architecture.

He noted that the organisation has a clear understanding of security policies and the imperatives of community policing, adding that it remains a worthy partner in national development and security management.

The governor pledged his unwavering support for the ideals and objectives of the PCRC and assured the organisation of his administration’s readiness to collaborate in promoting peace, security and harmonious coexistence across Jigawa State and beyond.

The visit also featured the presentation of copies of Societal Concerns Magazine to the Governor by Ambassador Mrs. Oluwayomi, a PCRC member from Lagos State, symbolising the organisation’s commitment to public enlightenment and advocacy.

Members of the delegation included senior PCRC national and state officers from Jigawa, Kano, Taraba and other states.
