The National Working Committee of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), loyal to the FCT Minister Nyesom Wike, on Sunday called on Nigerians, regardless of political affiliation, to unite against any rhetoric or actions that could undermine national cohesion.

The party expressed concern over remarks attributed to Seyi Makinde referencing “operation wetie,” noting that the term is historically linked to a period of political unrest in the country.

In a statement issued by the party’s National Publicity Secretary, Haruna Mohammed, the PDP emphasised the importance of maintaining peace and stability for the sustenance of democratic processes.

The statement stressed that a stable national environment remains essential for the effective functioning of any political system.

It added that political discourse should be conducted in a manner that promotes unity and avoids references that may evoke past tensions.

"Nigeria must come first, before politics and before personal ambitions. Without a peaceful and stable nation, no political system or democratic process can thrive.

"The PDP therefore calls on all Nigerians, irrespective of political affiliation, to unite in rejecting any rhetoric or action that could incite unrest or threaten national cohesion.

"Our shared history reminds us of the cost of division, and we must remain vigilant in safeguarding the peace we have worked hard to build.

"We further urge security and law enforcement agencies to carry out their duties with diligence and professionalism by reviewing the circumstances surrounding these reports, and also ensure that all relevant individuals are available to respond to lawful inquiries, no matter how highly placed.

"The PDP remains committed to fostering a political culture rooted in dialogue, tolerance, and respect for the rule of law. Our nation’s future rests on our shared commitment to put the country first, above any individual interest."
