A philanthropist, Abayomi Fagbenro, popularly called Bibire, has declared to contest for the House of Representatives seat of Ibadan Southwest/Ibadan Northwest Federal Constituency in the 2027 general election under Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).
He made this known in a statement in Ibadan, Oyo State capital, where he said the decision followed consultations with party leaders, stakeholders and people from demographics across the 23 wards that made up the federal constituency.
Fagbenro said the decision to seek the mandate of the citizens was informed by calls from the good people of Ibadan Southwest and Northwest Federal Constituency, who urged him to offer himself for service, in order to contribute to the development of the constituency.

He added: “I have listened carefully to the yearnings and expectations of the people, and I have decided to answer a call to serve, in order to complement ongoing efforts and contribute meaningfully to the development of our communities spread across the federal constituency.”
The retired US Navy officer, who noted that representation at the National Assembly remained an important platform for advancing the interests of the people through legislation, advocacy and oversight responsibilities that ensured government programmes served citizens effectively, said the House of Representatives would provide the ideal platform for him to do more for the people, as he builds on years of humanitarian engagement across Ibadan Southwest and Ibadan Northwest Federal Constituency, where he has supported several community development initiatives conceived to improve the living conditions of the people.
