Photo light painting is an uncommon type of fine art photography in the African art scene. These set of works by visual artist Iramofu Oseh, a curator and a photographer who paints with a camera and torchlight, offers a carefully considered exploration of light as both the medium and metaphor of the artist's expression, using motion not only as a visual technique, but as the language of ideas. I am particularly interested in the four pieces called Residual Motion, Fractured Light, Contained Energy, and Harmonic Resonance. They show the artist's focus on the behavior of movements in various states, including uninterrupted flow, interruption, confinement and balance. Interestingly, the artist uses the same technique to convey several emotional states and concepts at once, which allows light to become more than just the vehicle of aesthetically pleasing visual compositions.
With Residual Motion, Oseh captures the phenomenon of memory and repetition. Rather than depicting the idea, the overlapping images of movement create a certain visual resonance, reminding about how time tends to return and leave traces behind. Moreover, the artist achieves interesting results by applying the principle of uneven brightness in the process, resulting in a light stream of different intensities. It is a very effective way to visualize a memory, which can appear in the form of a sudden flash or a subtle echo of the past, while Fractured Light demonstrates another idea of movement, which is focused around the theme of breaking and interruption. In terms of visual technique, the piece shows quite remarkable consistency in capturing the effect of fragmentation. By leaving empty spaces, the artist forces the audience to experience this feeling and understand why it happens. Therefore, we can talk about a successfully conveyed sense of imbalance in this context. However, it would be possible to achieve a stronger visual effect with more variations of brightness and scale used to depict each fragment of the light. Overall, it is still an expressive piece of art.

Contained Energy is perhaps the most dramatic image in the series. It is built around the theme of pressure created by boundaries and contrasts. In other words, it shows two contrasting states, the first of which is represented by a boundary in the middle. The inside space is filled with chaotic light, and this combination is very effective as it conveys the atmosphere of tension and pressure very well. At the same time, the artist demonstrates good skills in developing two different languages in relation to one concept, since the movements outside and inside the boundary are different and clearly identifiable. The problem is that the image of the boundary seems neutral for now, without being able to dominate or fall into chaos. It is still a successful piece, though.
Harmonic Resonance on the other hand introduces a completely new perspective, as it includes a human element in the form of a central figure. Its presence makes the whole concept more relevant, offering the audience something familiar in addition to pure abstraction. In turn, the surroundings consist of light patterns, which represent various waves or frequencies. They create a strong sense of symmetrical harmony in the piece, reflecting the ideas of harmony and balance. Moreover, the presence of a horizontal waveform completes the image by adding stability. It shows the struggle to maintain harmony and balance between personal and inherited ideas.

To summarize, these four works offer a coherent analysis of various states of movement, from memory to harmony. Each piece focuses on a particular condition, but they are connected in terms of the medium used – LIGHT. Oseh demonstrates excellent skill in transforming the same technique into different variations in order to convey several emotions and ideas.
