The Regional Pastor of Redeemed Christian Church of God, Region 20 and Head of the Apapa Family, Pastor Kayode Pitan, has called on Christians to live as “vessels of light” capable of transforming society, urging believers to reflect God’s presence through righteous living and integrity.

Pitan said this at the national headquarters of the Redeemed Christian Church of God in Ebute Metta, Lagos,  where he emphasised that God seeks individuals who can carry His spirit, grace, and purpose to dispel darkness in the world.

Explaining the concept, he described a vessel as “a person used for a particular purpose” and, in the biblical sense, “a container of God’s spirit, grace, or purpose.” He noted that light represents God’s presence, holiness, truth, and salvation, standing in contrast to sin and evil.

Drawing from 1 John 1:5–7, Pitan said believers who desire fellowship with God must walk in righteousness and holiness, adding that God is actively searching for people who will serve as carriers of His light.

“Our God is looking for vessels of light. He wants to make us vessels of light so that we can drive away darkness,” he said.

Referencing Isaiah 60:1–3, he urged Christians to “Arise and shine,” noting that when believers reflect God’s glory, they attract influence and impact, even among leaders and nations.

Pitan cited biblical figures such as Joseph and Daniel as examples of individuals who upheld godly standards despite pressure. According to him, Joseph’s refusal to sin and Daniel’s commitment to purity distinguished them as vessels of light, ultimately leading to divine promotion and recognition.

He also referenced Matthew 5:14–16, reminding the congregation that believers are “the light of the world” and must allow their good works to glorify God before others.

Addressing national concerns, Pitan stressed that societal transformation does not depend solely on political leaders but on individuals living out godly values in their respective spheres.

“If members of RCCG alone choose to be vessels of light where they are, Nigeria will be a better place,” he said, urging Christians in various professions—including public service, law enforcement, and business—to uphold integrity.

Sharing a personal testimony from his university days, Pitan recounted how an act of diligence and compassion by a corporate official secured him a scholarship and shaped his future. He used the story to illustrate how individuals can make a lasting impact without holding public office.

He, however, warned that being a vessel of light requires consistency, noting that disobedience can cause the loss of divine presence. Citing examples such as King Saul and Samson, he said the departure of God’s spirit leads to spiritual decline.

“Light and darkness cannot coexist. When a person begins to live in sin, the light of God departs,” he cautioned.

Pitan encouraged believers to continually seek greater spiritual growth, referencing scriptures that highlight varying levels of glory and urging Christians to strive for deeper intimacy with God.

“God wants us to shine as lights in the world, even in the midst of a crooked and perverse nation,” he said, urging the congregation to commit to lives of holiness and purpose.

In his remarks, the founder of Mount Zion Faith Ministries, Mike Bamiloye, who attended the service with his wife, Gloria Bamiloye, encouraged creatives to produce content that heals, delivers and enlightens society spiritually.

He also advised practitioners in the creative industry not to rely solely on government funding, noting that with the aid of modern technology, impactful productions can still be achieved with limited resources when driven by purpose and the right message.

The service also featured participation from members of the creative industry, including practitioners in film, drama and music.
