From Kolade Adeyemi, Jos

The Senate of Plateau State University (PLASU), Bokkos has approved disciplinary actions against 76 students found guilty of examination malpractice during the 2024/2025 academic session.

A statement issued by Ngwen Jacob on behalf of the University’s Public Relations Officer, noted that the decision was reached at the university’s 102nd regular Senate meeting, where members ratified recommendations from the Examination Misconduct Committee.

The affected students were penalised for offences ranging from possession of unauthorised materials and mobile phones in examination halls to impersonation and writing answers on body parts.

Sanctions imposed include rustication for one academic session, compulsory carryover of implicated courses, and outright expulsion in severe cases, in line with provisions of the institution’s Students’ Handbook. The meeting was chaired by the Deputy Vice Chancellor (Academic), Prof. Moses Galadima, on behalf of the Vice Chancellor, Prof. Shadrach Best. Senate members reviewed the committee’s findings and unanimously approved the penalties after due deliberation.

Reaffirming the university’s stance, the vice-chancellor emphasised PLASU’s zero-tolerance for examination malpractice, stressing its commitment to academic integrity, discipline, and moral values.

He also commended the Examination Misconduct Committee for its diligence and adherence to due process.

In addition to disciplinary matters, the Senate ratified final-year undergraduate as well as postgraduate results for the 2024/2025 academic session. Reports presented during the meeting also confirmed that lectures for the new semester had resumed across departments two weeks earlier.

During the meeting, the Director of ICT, Mr. Sati Dapel, also presented updates on ongoing digital reforms to ease students’ registration.
