From Kolade Adeyemi, Jos

The Plateau Municipal Water Supply and Sanitation Agency (PLAMWASSA) has completed 17 water projects across five local government areas of the state.

The projects were handed over to the benefiting communities in Mangu Local Government Area, including an 80,000-litre capacity complex solar motorised water scheme at Mangun, Ampang West, and Pushit.

At the handover, PLAMWASSA General Manager, Mr. Jelkyes Jacob Dakat, said the intervention is a deliberate move by the administration to enhance water supply, sanitation, and hygiene in the state.

He added that other local governments, including Jos East, have also benefited from the similar projects.

Dakat emphasised the importance of maintenance culture, saying: “These facilities are supposed to be maintained, operated, by those communities in a way that is consistent with global best practices.’’

He highlighted the significance of the projects, stating that they mark a milestone in Governor Caleb Mutfwang’s efforts to improve the quality of life of Plateau State citizens through provision of portable water facilities.

Traditional rulers and community leaders lauded the state government for the intervention, promising to guard the facilities judiciously.

A Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) was signed between the state government and the benefiting communities on guidelines for operations, maintenance, and sustainability of the water facilities.
