In recognition of his huge contributions to the development of the country’s housing sector and provision of employment opportunities for millions of Nigerians, one of Nigeria’s housing sector developers, Archbishop Onyekachukwu Nzekwesi, was recently honoured by one of Nigeria’s media houses, Champion Newspapers Limited.
Archbishop Nzekwesi, whose work lies in bridging Nigeria’s housing gap by offering affordable, modern estates, is helping to alleviate the country’s chronic housing shortage while providing a model for sustainable real estate development. He prioritises long-term impact by creating homes that foster community cohesion, security and economic opportunities.
It is his blend of entrepreneurship, social impact and visionary leadership that earned him the award of Most Outstanding Real Estate Personality of the Year 2025 at the recent Champion Newspapers’ Award. As expected, this year’s event brought together business leaders, top politicians and celebrities of note, as Champion Newspapers again celebrated the crème of the country - individuals who have helped in shaping Nigeria's progress. Important dignitaries at the event include the former governor of Ogun State, Chief Segun Osoba alongside notable award recipients such as Charles Chukwuemeka Oputa (Charly Boy), representatives of the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) and top financial executives, friends, family and well-wishers of the award nominees.
Archbishop Nzekwesi’s award became more significant, going by the fact that it was presented to him by no other person but the Chairman of the event and former governor of Ogun State, Chief Segun Osoba.
Responding, Archbishop Nzekwesi expressed gratitude to God and to Champion Newspapers for what he described as a “wonderful honour.” He said the recognition was not solely a personal achievement but a reflection of the collective efforts of the many dedicated individuals who have contributed to the growth and success of his company.
According to him, the award serves as a motivation to redouble his efforts in service to humanity and national development. He also noted that the ceremony provided him with a rare opportunity to meet and interact with many individuals he had long admired as role models.
Archbishop Nzekwesi also announced plans for a humanitarian housing initiative aimed at benefiting civil servants in Anambra State. The initiative, he stated, will involve the provision of about 100 houses on an owner-occupier basis, to be paid for within a 20-year grace period. This, he added, is part of efforts to support workers and promote home ownership.

Describing the award recipients as “some of the very best in our society,” Osoba noted that their achievements demonstrate that excellence, integrity and service remain enduring values.
“They remind us that excellence still matters, that integrity still counts and that leadership rooted in true service remains the true measure of greatness,” he said.
Earlier, the Group Managing Director of Champion Newspapers Limited, Nwadiuto Iheakanwa, said the event was more than a ceremony but a celebration of excellence, resilience, integrity and service to Nigeria.

According to her, the Champion Awards were instituted not merely to confer plaques but to spotlight individuals and institutions whose leadership inspires hope, drives innovation and strengthens Nigeria’s democracy and economy.
“Tonight’s award recipients represent the best of what Nigeria can produce. They have demonstrated that solutions are possible when vision meets integrity and when courage meets competence,” she said, adding that recognition also comes with greater responsibility to continue inspiring the next generation.
Archbishop Nzekwesi’s immense contributions to nation-building cannot be overemphasised. Driven by a passion for societal transformation, his mission centres on creating platforms for wealth creation and financial literacy.
Through his innovative approach, he has championed land banking reforms, estate development and community empowerment, offering Nigerians a trusted avenue for property ownership while addressing the country’s increasing housing deficit, for which experts say the country needs visionary leaders and entrepreneurs who are committed to transforming the real estate landscape by reducing the housing deficit in Nigeria.
