The Kogi State Police Command yesterday confirmed  the arrest and arraignment of six suspects for allegedly cyberstalking a student of Federal University, Lokoja.

The police said the suspects were equally students of the university.

The Command gave the names of the suspects as  Inajo Henry, Nzekwe Victor, Lucky Victor, Lucky Gambo, and Paul David, along with one other (17-year-old minor).

According to the police, the victim, one Oladosu Sunday had on March 30, this year, lodged complaints of criminal conspiracy, use of criminal force, defamation of character, assault, and cyberstalking against the suspects at the B division of the Command in Lokoja.

The spokesman of the Command, Assistant Superintendent of Police Salihu Afusat, who confirmed the development in a statement yesterday, said detectives stepped into the case.

According to her, the outcome of the investigation led to the arrest of the suspects and their subsequent arraignment.

“The suspects confined the victim in a room, forcibly stripped him naked, and subjected him to inhumane assault using belts and charging cords while recording the act.

“The video was, thereafter, circulated online, where it went viral among members of the university community.

“The suspects admitted during interrogation that their actions were premeditated and based solely on unverified assumptions about the victim’s behaviour.

“The Command wishes to state that investigation into the case has been concluded and the suspects have been arraigned before a court of competent jurisdiction.”

The Police Command reiterated that acts of jungle justice, cyberbullying, and criminality will not be tolerated under any guise.

The statement added that the Commissioner of Police, Naziru Bello Kankarofi,  reassured residents of the Command’s commitment to safeguarding lives and property, and urged continued cooperation with the Police in the fight against crime.
