Police arrest 15-year old boy for killing guardian in Kwara

A 15-year-old boy, Gobir Yusuf, is currently in the custody of the Kwara State Police Command for alleged murder of his female guardian, A. Akanbi, in Ilorin, the state capital.
Police claimed that the suspect attacked the victim, using kitchen turning stick.
Addressing reporters in Ilorin, Commissioner of Police Adekimi Ojo revealed that "the mother of the victim is of the same parent with the deceased”.
The boy also confessed that he had unsuccessfully attempted to poison the deceased twice.
He confessed to killing the woman for always scolding him over his alleged waywardness.
Exhibits recovered from him include a frying pan, a weighing scale, a kitchen turning stick (spatula) and kitchen knives.
Mr Ojo said: "On January 14, 2026, a distress report was received concerning the discovery of one Akanbi A. in a pool of blood at her residence.
"Police operatives responded immediately and commenced a discreet investigation.
"Findings revealed that the suspect, who was residing with the deceased, allegedly concealed himself behind a door and attacked her while she was bathing, using household items.
"During interrogation, the suspect confessed that the act was motivated by resentment and disclosed that previous attempts to poison the deceased had failed.

"After committing the offence, he changed his clothes and left the residence under the pretext of running an errand.
"He later contacted the deceased's husband, who discovered her lifeless body.
“The suspect remains in custody and will be charged to court upon conclusion of investigation."
The police chief also paraded 10 Bajaj Boxer motorcycles allegedly being used to perpetrate kidnap activities.
He added that 10 suspected kidnappers were accordingly arrested.
The suspects include Ahmadu Yusuf, Shehu Abubakar, Mohammadu Mujuma, Mohammadu Mande, Umaru Bashiru and Juli Mohammadu.
Others are Shehu Babuga, Muhammadu Bello Bawa, Muhammadu Abubakar and Muhammadu Bello.
"The suspects are currently in secure custody while in-depth and discreet investigations are ongoing to dismantle the wider criminal network and establish linkages to related violent crimes," he added.
