The Ogun State Police Command has intensified its crackdown on crime with the arrest of four suspects and the recovery of illegal firearms and ammunition in coordinated operations across Mowe, Sagamu, and Odeda.

In Mowe, operatives acting on credible intelligence apprehended a 36-year-old suspect, Opeyemi Anuoluwapo, who was found under suspicious circumstances near a bus stop. A search led to the recovery of a locally made pistol, an expended cartridge, and charms concealed in his bag.

The command’s spokesperson, DSP Oluseyi Babaseyi, disclosed in a statement on Sunday that in a related development in Sagamu, officers of the Quick Response Squad (QRS) intercepted two suspects along the Sagamu/Ogijo Road during routine stop-and-search operations.

The first suspect, a 30-year-old motorcycle rider, was found in possession of a locally made firearm loaded with nine cartridges. In a similar operation the following day, another rider, aged 49, was arrested with a double-barrelled gun and eight cartridges after failing to provide a credible explanation for the weapon.

In Odeda, a local vigilante member was arrested following a shooting incident at the Sawmill area of Osiele. The suspect reportedly discharged a firearm, leaving three persons injured.

Police confirmed that the victims received prompt medical attention and are in stable condition, while the firearm used in the incident has been recovered.

All suspects have been transferred to the State Criminal Investigation Department (SCIID) in Eleweran, Abeokuta, for further investigation and possible prosecution.

The Commissioner of Police in Ogun State, CP Bode Ojajuni, commended the officers involved and reiterated the command’s commitment to intelligence-driven operations aimed at curbing illegal possession of firearms, cultism, and other violent crimes.

Residents were also urged to remain vigilant and report suspicious activities to security agencies through designated emergency lines.
