The Rivers State Police Command has arrested 29-year-old Robinson Uche, a murder suspect connected to the death of 42-year-old Shedrack Ogadinma Chukwem, an indigene of Umuemeshie Community, Chokota, in Igbo-Etche, Etche Local Government Area of the state.

A statement signed by the Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO) CSP Grace Iringe-Koko said the suspect, who hails from Umuechem in Etche, was apprehended on March 6 following sustained investigative efforts by operatives of the Command attached to the Anti-Cultism Unit, Emuohia Annex.

During interrogation, the suspect reportedly confessed to actively participating in the killing of the deceased.

The police said the suspect's statement confirmed that the incident occurred on 17th December 2025, when he and four others—Prince aka “Onyia-Army”; Achor, Gift Okere, aka “Nnaye”; and another unnamed individual—were allegedly hired by Chief Elijah Okere to bring the deceased to his palace.

The suspect was said to have further explained that upon arriving at the location where the deceased was attending a family meeting, their attempt to arrest him became unsuccessful, adding that in the course of the encounter, the group shot the deceased, resulting in his death.

The police also quoted the suspect as saying that the group subsequently transported the body to a bush located at Ekerre-Ugbor, where they buried him in a shallow grave.

The statement said the suspect led police operatives to the location where the body was buried, and the remains of the deceased were successfully recovered from the shallow grave and later deposited at the Military Hospital Mortuary for autopsy.

The police said they had intensified efforts to apprehend the other suspects currently at large.
