The Oyo State Police Command has arrested one Sodiq Kayode Akorede at Adigun Village in the Olorunda Ogunsola area of Ibadan over the alleged killing of a young girl, Mutiyatu Sunday.
The victim was reportedly found with her head severed, which police said was recovered from the suspect at the time of his arrest.
In a statement, the Command’s spokesperson, Ayanlade Olayinka, said the Commissioner of Police, Abimbola Ayodeji, immediately ordered the deployment of operatives to the scene upon receiving the report, directing that the suspect be rescued and the exhibit secured.
“Following the directive, police officers swiftly mobilised to the scene and, despite resistance from an irate mob, acted with professionalism and restraint to successfully rescue and arrest the suspect, while also securing the exhibit found in his possession,” the statement said.

"Following the arrest, preliminary investigation revealed that the suspect, one Sodiq Kayode Akorede ‘M’, aged 23, allegedly unlawfully killed a 6-year-old girl, later identified as Mutiyatu Sunday ‘F’, and severed her head, which was recovered from him.
"Furthermore, upon interrogation, the suspect confessed to the commission of the crime. He was thereafter conveyed to a medical facility for necessary treatment following injuries sustained from the mob attack and will be transferred to the State Criminal Investigation Department (CID) for discreet investigation and prosecution.
"In light of the foregoing, the Commissioner of Police strongly warns against acts of jungle justice, as such unlawful actions impede thorough investigation and ultimately truncate the course of justice.
"The Command reassures members of the public that justice will be served in this matter and urges residents to remain law-abiding while promptly reporting suspicious activities to the nearest police formation."
