Police arrests two ‘Agbekoya’ over killing of ‘Okada’ rider in Ibadan

The Oyo State Police Command has confirmed the arrest of two members of the Agbekoya group in connection with the killing of a commercial motorcycle rider, popularly known as Okada rider, during a clash in Ibadan on Saturday evening.

The Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO), Ayanlade Olayinka, gave the confirmation while responding to inquiries on the incident.

He stated that the incident occurred at about 7PM and involved a confrontation between the Okada rider and members of the Agbekoya group.

According to the police, the victim, identified simply as Awo, lost his life in the course of the altercation, which escalated into violence under circumstances that are still being investigated.

The command confirmed that two suspects linked to the Agbekoya group have been apprehended in connection with the incident, while efforts are ongoing to track down and arrest another suspect who is currently at large.

He said, “Concerning the clash between Okada rider and Agbekoya around 7pm this evening resulting in the death of one Okada rider known only as Awo, the Oyo state police command have arrested two Agbekoya an investigation is ongoing to arrest the remaining one. 

"Meanwhile the situation have been brought under control and normalcy has been restored in the area."

He assured residents that security operatives are on ground to prevent any further breakdown of law and order.

The command further stated that a full investigation has commenced to unravel the exact cause of the clash and ensure that all those involved are brought to justice.

He urged residents to remain calm and cooperate with law enforcement authorities by providing credible information that could aid the ongoing investigation.
