The Oyo State Police Command has confirmed the abduction of Adetutu Aderibigbe, who was kidnapped at her residence in Ibadan on Wednesday, assuring that efforts are ongoing to apprehend the perpetrators.

The command also refuted claims circulating on social media that the victim was abducted on the road, clarifying that she was trailed to her residence in the Bolumole area, off Ring Road, where the incident occurred around 6 p.m.

Police Public Relations Officer, Ayanlade Olayinka, explained that the victim was accosted at the gate of her residence shortly after arriving home.

According to him, four armed men wearing masks intercepted her while she was attempting to enter her premises and forcefully took her away in an unregistered black Lexus vehicle.

He added that a family member present at the scene was not harmed during the incident, while assuring that the command is actively pursuing the suspects.

He said, "The Oyo State Police Command is aware of a report currently circulating in the media regarding the alleged kidnapping of one Mrs. Adetutu Aderibigbe.

"Preliminary investigation reveals that the incident occurred on 8th April 2026 at about 1800hrs at Bolumole Area, off Ring Road, Ibadan.

"Contrary to reports suggesting that the victim was kidnapped on the road and that her vehicle windscreen was smashed, findings indicate that the assailants had trailed the victim to her residence.

"Upon her arrival and while attempting to enter her premises, she was accosted at the gate by four armed men wearing masks and subsequently forcefully taken away in an unregistered black Lexus vehicle.

"A family member who was present at the scene was left unharmed."

He noted that, immediately the matter was reported, the Police swung into action by escalating it to relevant tactical units.

He added that detectives were swiftly deployed to the scene for on-the-spot assessment, assuring the public that all necessary resources had been deployed to secure the victim’s release and apprehend those responsible for this heinous act.

"Following a report made at the station shortly after the incident, the Police promptly swung into action.

"The incident was immediately reported to the Control Room and escalated to relevant tactical units. Detectives were swiftly deployed to the scene for on-the-spot assessment.

"The scene of the crime has since been forensically swept, and critical evidence recovered is currently aiding the ongoing investigation. Surveillance and intelligence efforts have also been intensified to track down the perpetrators and ensure the safe rescue of the victim.

"The Command wishes to assure the public that all necessary resources have been deployed to secure the victim’s release and apprehend those responsible for this heinous act. Further updates will be communicated as necessary.

"Members of the public are urged to remain calm and cooperate with law enforcement agencies by providing credible information that could assist in the investigation," Ayanlade added.
