The Akwa Ibom State Police Command has announced the successful rescue of 14 victims abducted by sea pirates along the Calabar–Oron waterways, following a joint operation with the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC).

In a statement on Tuesday, the Police Public Relations Officer, DSP Timfon John, said the rescue was achieved through sustained intelligence gathering, inter-agency collaboration, and targeted operations across identified hotspots within the maritime corridor.

According to the statement, operatives from both agencies intensified surveillance based on credible intelligence, applying pressure on criminal elements operating in the area, which ultimately led to the safe release of all the victims without any casualties.

The victims have since been taken for medical evaluation and are undergoing treatment and debriefing procedures before being reunited with their families.

The Commissioner of Police in Akwa Ibom State, CP Baba Mohammed Azare, commended the personnel involved for their professionalism and coordination, noting that the success highlights the importance of collaboration among security agencies in tackling complex security challenges.

He added that efforts are ongoing to apprehend those responsible for the abduction, assuring the public that the perpetrators would be brought to justice.

The police command also reaffirmed its commitment to strengthening security along the waterways, urging residents and maritime operators to support law enforcement with timely and credible information.

Azare warned criminal elements to desist from illegal activities or face decisive action, stressing that the command remains committed to protecting lives and property across the state.
