He said in a swift response, the Divisional Police Officer (DPO) of Agbor Division mobilised the Anti-Crime Patrol team to the scene. He said upon arrival, operatives found that one of the suspects had already been overpowered by residents during a struggle.
Edafe said the suspect, identified as 41-year-old Emeka Ernest from Ukpo in Anambra State, sustained injuries and was taken into police custody before being rushed to General Hospital, Agbor, where he is currently receiving treatment.
He said the police recovered one live cartridge from the suspect, while two expended cartridges, a battle axe, a red cloth believed to have been used as a face mask, and a mobile phone were also found at the scene.
The spokesman stated that further investigation led to a follow-up operation on April 6, during which operatives recovered a locally fabricated single-barreled short gun concealed near the scene, based on information provided by the suspect.
He said investigations are ongoing, and efforts are being intensified to apprehend other members of the gang who are currently at large.
The Commissioner of Police in Delta State, CP Yemi Oyeniyi, commended the swift response of officers and the vigilance of residents.
He reiterated the Command’s commitment to safeguarding lives and property and urged members of the public to remain alert and report any suspicious activities to the Police.
