Police in Anambra State have arrested three armed suspects inside a bush located at Umuezeala Awuda Village, Nnobi, in Idemili South  Local Government Area of the state.

Spokesperson, Tochukwu Ikenga, who disclosed this on Friday, said the suspects were arrested by Police operatives attached to the Rapid Response Squad Awkuzu in collaboration with members of the Agunechemba Vigilante Group, Nnobi.

He said the operatives also rescued a kidnapped victim, and recovered one locally made Beretta pistol and the ransom of ₦469,000 from the suspects.

Ikenga said, "In the evening of April 18, 2026, Police operatives attached to the Rapid Response Squad Awkuzu, in collaboration with members of the Agunechemba Vigilante Group, Nnobi, acting on a well-coordinated operation, based on credible intelligence, stormed a bush, located at Umuezeala Awuda Village, Nnobi, in Idemili South  Local Government Area.

"The team successfully arrested three armed suspects, rescued a kidnapped victim and recovered one locally made Beretta pistol and the ransom of Four Hundred and Sixty-Nine Thousand Naira (₦469,000) from the suspects.

"The three suspects arrested at the scene, all males, include: Chidalu Obi, 25 years; Chichebem Ojenigbo, 26 years; and Chikannechukwu Eze, 20 years, respectively.

"Preliminary investigation revealed that the suspects lured the victim, an electrician by profession, under the pretext of offering him a job.

“Upon arrival at the agreed location, the victim was forcefully blindfolded at gunpoint and taken to the bush at Umuezeala Awuda, where he was held captive.

"Meanwhile, the suspects confessed to the crime and admitted to collecting a ransom of Four Hundred and Sixty-Nine Thousand Naira (₦469,000), which was transferred into a SportyBet account belonging to one of the suspects, Chidalu Obi.

"The Anambra State Police Command reiterates its commitment to safeguarding lives and property and urges members of the public to continue to support the police with timely and credible information.”
