Operatives of the Ondo State Police Command have rescued five armed robbery victims and arrested three suspects following a swift response along Ondo Road in Ondo State.

The incident occurred in the early hours of Thursday between Ita-Oba and Oboto, along a major route linking Ondo and Akure.

This was disclosed in a statement issued by the command’s spokesperson, DSP Jimoh Abayomi, in Akure, on Thursday.

According to him, armed men intercepted a commercial vehicle conveying five passengers and diverted it into a nearby bush, where the victims were robbed of their belongings.

The victims were identified as Sunday Omodele, 63; Osedimilehin Peter, 29; Osedimilehin Ifeoluwa, 18; Osedimilehin Florence, 56; and Ademola Regina.

Abayomi said a distress call triggered a rapid response involving police officers and personnel of the Ondo State Security Network, codenamed Amotekun.

He noted that the joint operation led to the successful rescue of all five victims, who were found unharmed.

The three suspects: Akinyemi Olamilekan, Mutaka Ali, and Atiku Abubakar were arrested in connection with the crime.

The police spokesperson added that the suspects provided useful information to investigators and will be charged to court upon the conclusion of investigations.

Reacting, the Commissioner of Police, CP Adebowale Lawal, reassured residents and commuters of the command’s commitment to securing highways and major transit routes across the state.

Adebowale said patrols, surveillance, and intelligence-led operations have been intensified to prevent similar incidents and ensure swift emergency responses.

The command urged residents to remain vigilant and report suspicious activities, stressing that timely and credible information is crucial in combating crime.

It, however, lauded the professionalism and prompt response of officers involved in the operation, describing it as a reflection of its dedication to protecting lives and property.
