A police officer, Nkeiruka Nwode, has marked her birthday with humanitarian outreach activities that saw hundreds of artisanal workers and school pupils receive gifts and educational materials across parts of Ebonyi State.
The outreach was carried out on her behalf by members of her support group, the Ruka Movement, led by Nteoma Chimaobi, across communities in Ezza North and Abakaliki.
Items including school uniforms, exercise books and pens were distributed to support pupils and vulnerable residents.
One of the key stops was Unity Primary School, Uharaugo Igweledeoha II in Ezza North where pupils were presented with newly sewn school uniforms alongside exercise books and writing materials to aid their learning.
In addition to the school outreach, the team visited several locations within Abakaliki, including Opposite Pa Oruta Township Stadium, Ugwuechara Market, Ahaofu by Quarry Junction, Old People’s Home along Alo Street, Tipper Garage by Spera-in-Deo, Rice Mill, and various mechanic sites, where they shared gifts and encouragement with labourers and other residents.
Speaking on the initiative, Nwode, who hails from Ebonyi State, said the gesture formed part of activities to commemorate her birthday, noting that supporting children and the less privileged had always been close to her heart.
“A uniform may seem small to many, but to a child without one it means confidence, belonging, and the chance to attend school with pride,” she said.
“Today, March 13, 2026, I was honoured to sew 200 uniforms for pupils in need, because every child deserves the dignity and opportunity that education brings.”
She said the outreach was organised to celebrate life through service and to give hope to children who needed it most.
“In commemoration of my birthday, this act of kindness was done to celebrate life by giving hope and smiles to children who need it most,” she added.
Nwode, who is currently the spokesperson for Nigeria Police Force Headquarters Annex, Lagos says policing goes beyond enforcing the law, stressing the importance of compassion and community engagement.
“Policing is not only about law enforcement, but about compassion, service and touching lives beyond the badge,” she said.
Leader of the team, Nteoma Chimaobi, hailed members of the organisation for their dedication during the two-day outreach, describing the exercise as a reflection of Nwode’s longstanding commitment to humanitarian service.
He noted that the police spokesperson had over the years undertaken several philanthropic projects, including building houses for widows, providing furniture and educational materials to abandoned government schools, and distributing school bags, shoes and hundreds of school uniforms to pupils.
Chimaobi said celebrating her birthday through acts of charity underscored the belief that the true value of life lied in the positive impact one made in the lives of others.
Beneficiaries of the outreach expressed appreciation for the support, noting that the donations would help many pupils remain in school and encourage them to pursue their education with confidence.
