Inspector General of Police (IGP) Olatunji Disu yesterday led a nationwide walkathon.
The exercise involved senior officers, rank-and-file personnel and members of the public. It was part of activities marking this year’s National Police Week.
It was a coordinated show of fitness, visibility, and community partnership across commands and formations of the Nigeria Police Force (NPF).
The IGP flagged off the exercise in Abuja with a walk from the Force Headquarters to the Unity Fountain under the theme: “Together We Walk, Together We Secure.”
The event was among the efforts the police leadership was making to strengthen public trust, promote healthy living among personnel and reinforce collaboration between the police and citizens.
The walkathon was replicated simultaneously across the country, with Assistant Inspectors General (AIGs) and Commissioners of Police (CPs) leading similar exercises in their formations.
At the Zone 2 Command Headquarters in Onikan, Lagos, AIG Olohundare Moshood Jimoh led senior officers and personnel on Day Two of the exercise, which recorded a large turnout.

The police chief said the initiative was designed not only to promote physical fitness but also to demonstrate the Force’s commitment to professionalism and improved engagement with the public.
Jimoh noted that closer interaction between officers and residents remained essential to effective policing and public confidence.
Also, the Force Criminal Investigation Department (FCID) Annex at Ikoyi, Lagos, organised a two-hour walk along major adjoining routes around the Kam Salem House and Force Headquarters Annex axis.
The exercise was led by AIG Simeon Akpanudom, who said the activity aligned with the Police Day celebration’s theme: “Community Partnership: Building Trust.”
The police chief reaffirmed the department’s commitment to strengthening collaboration with the public to enhance security and sustain confidence.
He urged the residents to support the police with timely and credible information to aid crime prevention and investigation.
Also, the Lagos State Police Command organised a four-kilometre walk from the Command Headquarters at Ikeja GRA through Mobolaji Bank Anthony Way in conjunction with the Police College, Ikeja.
Police Commissioner Tijani Fatai said the exercise was aimed at reinforcing the force’s visibility within communities and reassuring residents of the command’s readiness to respond promptly to security concerns.
He urged members of the public to continue partnering with the police by reporting complaints and sharing useful information.
Fatai assured them of professional and responsive service delivery.
The nationwide walkathon is one of several activities lined up for the 2026 National Police Week to promote officers’ physical fitness, improve operational readiness and deepen trust between the Nigeria Police Force and the communities they serve.
