Imo State Commissioner for Sports, Honourable Obinna Onyeocha, has expressed delight over the successful staging of the 2026 Imo FA Cup, praising both the organisation and the quality displayed by the finalists.

“I feel happy that this year’s Imo FA Cup is a success. I am happy it ended well and you can agree with me that the two finalists gave a good account of themselves,” Onyeocha said.

“Campos FA and Heartland Queens have shown through their victories that they will be among the teams to beat when the real national championship kicks off later in the year.

“We are expecting them to go all the way to the final and return to Owerri with the title.”

Echoing the Commissioner’s optimism, Campos FA head coach, Ononiwu Chibueze, reflected on his side’s impressive run to the title, following their 2-0 victory over OISA FC in the final.

“We are grateful for the victory. We do not reckon with teams and what we know is to win,” Chibueze stated. “I want to appreciate my boys and everyone at Campos FA for the work done to ensure we win. We played all our games without fear.”

The coach emphasized his team’s fearless mentality and resilience throughout the competition.

“When the road is rough, it is for those with tough minds to conquer. We do not care about the names of opponents we are facing. We are just eager to win.”

Drawing inspiration from recent cup history, Chibueze pointed to the example of underdogs making deep runs on the national stage.

“Last season, Abakaliki FC from the lower league got to the final of the President’s Federation Cup before losing to Kwara United on penalties. Campos FA too will strive to live up to their name as ‘King Makers.’"
