Heartland B have crashed out of the 2026 Imo FA President’s Federation Cup following a dramatic penalty shootout defeat to Akonye FC, while Campos FC secured a comfortable 2-0 victory over Ave International FC as the competition continued at the Township Stadium, Tetlow Road, Owerri.
In a tightly contested encounter, Heartland B took the lead in the 61st minute after Emmanuel Nkwocha calmly converted from the penalty spot, following a foul inside the box. The game looked set to end in their favour until a late twist handed Akonye FC a lifeline.
Heartland B’s goalkeeper was penalised for holding the ball beyond the mandatory eight seconds, resulting in an indirect free kick for Akonye FC inside the area. Jonathan Oluchukwu capitalised on the opportunity, firing home to restore parity just before full time.
