Okuokpellagbe of Okpella, His Royal Highness Michael Eshioronoya Olorunfemi Sado, described the recitation of the Holy Qur'an as a value that needs preservation.
Oba Sado spoke at the 7th annual Qur’an recitation competition held at FUTAC Schools, Imiagwuese, in honour of his predecessor, the late Alhaji A.Y.E. Dirisu.
Students, Islamic scholars, parents, and community leaders from across Okpella and neighbouring communities attended the event.
Oba Sado said the event highlighted the growing importance of Qur’an recitation as a platform for religious learning and youth development in the locality.
The Okpella Monarch commended the organisers for sustaining the annual competition, saying it was a worthy tribute to the late Monarch whose "legacy of piety and commitment to education continues to resonate in the community."

He urged young participants to remain committed to both Islamic and formal education.
He said, "Knowledge remains essential for personal growth and societal progress.
“This competition reflects our values and the need to preserve the legacy of those who came before us.
"It further underscores the culture of peaceful coexistence in Okpella."
Participants competed in different categories of Qur’anic recitation, showcasing discipline and mastery of the Holy Qur’an.
Winners were presented with prizes and recognition for their performance.
