Governor Dikko Umar Radda has fulfilled his pledge of N500,000 each to three female members of the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) who narrowly escaped a fire outbreak at their lodge in Katsina.

The incident occurred at Al-Ilam Islamic College, Kofar Guga, where the corps members were reportedly asleep when a mysterious fire engulfed the building.

Other corps members had earlier left the lodge with their belongings in the afternoon, unaware that the three victims were still inside the building.

Reports indicated that the victims woke up suddenly amid panic and confusion as the fire spread through the facility. In a desperate attempt to escape, they jumped from the front of the storey building to the ground floor, abandoning their personal belongings except the clothes they were wearing.

Following the incident, the Katsina State NYSC Coordinator, Ibrahim Saidu, reported the situation to Governor Radda and the Director-General of the NYSC, Oluseye Olakunle Nafiu.

The NYSC Director-General subsequently approved N250,000 each for the affected corps members to help them cope with the trauma and replace some of their lost belongings.

Governor Radda had also pledged an additional N500,000 to each of the victims, a promise that has now been fulfilled.

The funds were presented to the corps members by the Chairman of the Katsina State NYSC Governing Board and Commissioner for the Ministry of Youth and Sports Development, Surajo Yazeed, on March 4, 2026, at his office in Katsina.

The beneficiaries are Sunday Doowuese Miriam (KT/25B/0409), Abdullahi Amina Dangana (KT/25B/0748), and Bello Aishat Patience (KT/25B/0081), who are serving in Katsina State but hail from different parts of the country.

The corps members expressed appreciation to the Katsina State Government and the NYSC leadership for the support and prompt assistance following the incident.
