The Lawrence Olanrewaju (LOI) Foundation on Saturday distributed food items to thousands of residents in Oshodi, Lagos, as Muslim faithful observed the Ramadan fast, while urging Nigerians to continue backing President Bola Tinubu.
The distribution took place during the foundation’s Ramadan lecture and Iftar programme, themed “Hope for the Future: Building a Better Life After Ramadan.”
Speaking at the event, foundation founder Lawrence Olanrewaju said the initiative aimed to give back to society and support residents during the fasting period.
“Ramadan should not only be a period of abstinence but also a time to strengthen communities and show compassion to the less privileged,” he said.
Olanrewaju also expressed support for President Tinubu, noting that his administration has made strides to stabilise the nation’s economy since 2023, and emphasising that more time is needed to consolidate ongoing reforms.
“I have always believed in sharing with my brothers and giving back to society. Ramadan is not just about fasting, it is about building better communities. President Bola Tinubu has done a lot since he came on board but he cannot fix everything in a day. When something has gone bad, it takes time to fix it. I appeal to Nigerians to continue to support him so he can finish what he started,” he said.

Delivering the Ramadan lecture, a Professor from the University of Lagos, Kunle Gbenro, urged Muslim faithful to imbibe the virtues of generosity, discipline and compassion during and after the fasting period.
He said the lessons of Ramadan should not end with the fasting season but should reflect in everyday conduct.
“Faith, discipline, compassion and generosity are qualities we must imbibe. Fasting is not just about abstaining from food; it should transform us during and after Ramadan. We must continue to show these values even after the fasting period,” he said.
Gbenro added that building a better future for the country would require deliberate efforts to support young people and create opportunities for them to develop their talents.
Also speaking, the Chief Imam Missioner of the Council of Imams, Oshodi/Isolo, AbdulWaheed, called on Nigerians to live in peace and harmony, urging religious leaders to continue to pray for the unity and stability of the country.
