The Rural Electrification Agency (REA) yesterday vowed to energize the National Judicial Institute (NJI) from the N100 billion Solarization Initiative.

The Managing Director, Abba Aliyu, made this known as the NJI Administrator Justice Babatunde Adejumo led a delegation from the institute on a courtesy visit to the agency's headquarters in Abuja.

The NJI boss requested a solar electricity project implementation in the institute to aid learning, the hospital, and the environment.

Responding, Aliyu said the institute made the request right at the time the agency was conducting an energy audit for security agencies.

He added that REA has already commenced its intervention at the State Security Services, the Economic and Financial Crime Commission, the Independent Crime Practices Commission, the National Hospital, and in about 12 more educational institutions across the country.

His words: "Beyond that, Mr. President approved 100 billion Naira for the National Public Sector Solarization Initiative. And this is where the National Judicial Institute can benefit.

"The essence of that program is to provide intervention to public institutions that are underserved or have difficulty paying for the electricity they consume."

"To date, we have already started at the State Security Services, the Economic and Financial Crime Commission, the Independent Crime Practices Commission, the National Hospital, and about 12 more educational institutions across the country."

He, however, tasked the institute with tariff payment when the project is commissioned, warning that legal rights must not be used to deny the service provider its payments.

He recalled that REA has already implemented similar projects in different institutions and teaching hospitals across the country.

The REA boss revealed that there will be an energy audit of the institute to determine the size of the mini-grid for deployment.

Aliyu said, "We are looking at the police, Navy, Air Force, and Army. And we are looking at a number of government institutions. We are looking at the police, Navy, Air Force, and Army.

And we are looking at a number of government institutions. We are looking at the police, Navy, Air Force, and the Army.

"And I assure you that the National Judicial Institute will make its way into that list.

"We will definitely do that, include it for the energy audit. We normally conduct an energy audit to determine the optimal size of the mini-grid that we should deploy.

And the distribution network and the metering. We will do that, but we will charge."

Earlier, Adejumo sought to have a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) with the agency for solar energy deployment.

"I would like us to have an MoU. There are many things we can do," he said.

He recalled how he was in the Villa, and a young Nigerian was talking about Rural Electrification. He narrated how he went to Niger and was told about the agency's project, noting that upon verification of the projects, he requested a similar one for NJI.

He said the problem in Nigeria is the power that is required for all businesses, and how to save the ecosystem.

He applauded the agency for gender balancing.
