Rector warns against cultism, exam malpractice

The Rector of Federal Polytechnic Nekede, Owerri, Dr Basilia Igbokwe, has urged newly admitted students of the institution to maintain good conduct, remain focused on their studies and avoid social vices that could jeopardize their academic future.
Dr Igbokwe gave the advice during the 48th matriculation ceremony of the institution held at the Polytechnic Pavilion, where more than 13,000 students were formally admitted into various programmes of the school.

Addressing the matriculating students, the rector congratulated them on securing admission into the polytechnic and reminded them that gaining admission into the institution came with responsibilities and expectations.
She highlighted the need for hard work, discipline and adherence to the rules and regulations guiding the institution.

The rector warned the students to steer clear of cultism, drug abuse, examination malpractice and other forms of misconduct capable of ruining their academic pursuits and future prospects.
According to her, the polytechnic aims to produce graduates who excel not only academically but also in character.

Dr Igbokwe further urged the students to justify the sacrifices made by their parents and sponsors who have invested resources and trust in their education.
The rector noted that the institution expects them to make their families proud by showing commitment to their studies and maintaining positive behaviour throughout their academic journey.
She also assured the students that authorities at the polytechnic will continue to provide a conducive learning environment that supports quality education and academic excellence.
