Jakande said: “My advice is not just for Muslims, but for everyone. At this time, Muslims are observing the month of Ramadan, while Christians are also in the Lenten season. Everything we learn during this period should become part of our daily lives so that we can promote peaceful coexistence in our communities.”
He added that the lecture was not only about remembering the late Shonibare but also about encouraging people to emulate the good values he displayed while he was alive and a meaningful reminder for everyone to reflect on the way they live their lives.
Jakande, while emphasising that the message of the event should reach beyond religious boundaries, noted that although the deceased spent a short time on earth, his impact continues to inspire many people.

The guest speaker, Shaykh Ahmad Adetola-Kazeem, said the event served as a moment of remembrance for the late philanthropist, who passed away last year, and an opportunity for the community to reflect on the importance of living a meaningful and righteous life.

He described the late Shonibare as a man who dedicated his life to the worship of Allah and the service of others.
“Despite being a successful businessman who managed several companies, he remained devoted to his faith and was known for observing his prayers regularly in congregation,” he said.
He noted that his lifestyle reflected many qualities encouraged in Islam, including sincerity, charity, and fear of Allah.
“This is to remind us about the reality of the Day of Judgment, every soul will one day return to Allah, and on that day, humanity will be gathered under difficult conditions,” he said.
He noted that the late Shonibare demonstrated many noble qualities during his lifetime.
A Senior Lecturer at the Lagos State University (LASU), Prof Tunde Akanni, extolled the virtue of the late Shonibare.
Prof Akanni thanked the participants for honouring the deceased.
