…hails Tinubu for intervention

The Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Nyesom Wike, on Tuesday, is optimistic that the Governor of Rivers State, Siminalayi Fubara, and members of the House of Assembly will abide by the intervention of President Bola Tinubu.

Reacting to the development in Abuja after inspecting several ongoing projects in the nation’s capital.

Wike underscored the president’s role as a unifying figure whose leadership was essential in addressing the friction between the state’s executive and legislative arms.

According to sources, Siminalayi Fubara may likely forward the list of commissioners to the House of Assembly this week for lawmakers’ consideration and approval.

The presentation of the list formed part of the fresh truce brokered by President Tinubu between the embattled governor and his political godfather, Nyesom Wike.

Wike confirmed that the President hosted him, the governor, the Speaker, and some Rivers elders at the Presidential Villa on Sunday night.

He said, “I believe that by the grace of God, this will be the last time the president will be bothered with this issue and that this will be the last time the Rivers people will need to hear this kind of discord.”

Wike emphasized the authority of the president’s counsel, noting that “The president is the father of the nation, and when a father speaks, his children must listen and do the needful to ensure peace and progress.

“The House of Assembly will do what they are supposed to do, and I am confident that the governor will also carry out the acts required of him to ensure this peace is sustainable”.

Wike maintained that the commitment to stability is now the priority, stating that, “the most important thing is for Rivers State to move forward, and we are grateful to Mr President for his tireless commitment to ensuring that we reach this understanding”.

Recall, the state assembly recently began impeachment moves against the governor.

On the ongoing road construction in FCT, Wike said, “In our routine inspection to find out what our contractors are doing. We were at life camp, N5, and it's finished. You were there when Julius Berger said that in three weeks, they would have finished. What they are working on now is the walkways; the streetlights are already there.

“Last time we went there, remember that the bridges were not complete, but today, you could see that the bridges are completed; Four-lane, each of the sides. So, we are happy it's one of those projects that we think will be inaugurated by the President's third year in office.

“Here again, we are in Karsana. You can see the walkway done, carried out by Lubriks Construction. I'm very impressed with the quality of work. I didn't know that it's like a ring road, covering over 10 kilometers. I've asked the company, and from what I've seen, they're really going to meet up in May or June. I sincerely thank them and believe that on our part, we will make sure that they get the necessary funding so as to finish this project on time. But we're very happy”.
