Rivers State Governor, Siminalayi Fubara, has described his choice to pursue peace as a deliberate strategy for survival and the protection of what he holds dear, both personally and for the nation.
Speaking in Lagos at the New Telegraph Newspaper Awards, where he was named 2025 Man of the Year, Fubara emphasized that seeking peace should not be misconstrued as weakness. “Weakness is a virtue that pays at the right time,” he noted.
The governor dedicated the award to his political mentor, Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Wyeson Wike, praising him for recognizing Fubara’s potential regardless of circumstances.
“I want to thank the media for finding us among over two hundred million Nigerians and giving special recognition tonight,” Fubara said. “Some pains along the way are seen as weakness, others as strength. I chose weakness—for peace, for survival, for protecting what matters most. Weakness is a virtue; it pays at the right time.”
He also extended gratitude to God, his family, and the people of Rivers State for their support, maturity, and quiet resilience that have contributed to his journey. “This award is a celebration for everyone who believed in me,” he added.
Speaking at the event, Aremo Olusegun Osoba commended Fubara and fellow awardees for their contributions to national development.
Similarly, former Abia State Governor, Orji Uzor Kalu, praised Fubara as a mature public servant, noting that the award transcends political affiliations and recognizes exceptional leadership and performance.
Kalu underscored that the platform is for celebrating values and achievements, not political parties, acknowledging the governor’s representation as an illustration of exemplary governance.
