‘ROCO’ vows to revive grassroots sports after getting Newstap/SWAN Award

Renowned sports philanthropist, Dr. Chief Robert Daniel Onyeani, has declared that his recent recognition at the Newstap/SWAN Five Star Awards will serve as a catalyst for a renewed "grassroots revolution" in Nigerian football.
Popularly known by the moniker ‘ROCO’, the Abia-state based administrator was honoured last Friday at the Blessing Hall of the Eko Club in Surulere. The award, organized by Newstap Communications in conjunction with the Sports Writers Association of Nigeria (SWAN), recognizes individuals who have committed personal resources to national sports development.
Speaking shortly after receiving his plaque, an elated Onyeani noted that the award validates his long-standing investment in male and female football clubs based in Abiriba, Ohafia Local Government Area.
"It is a thing of joy to be counted worthy by the management of Newstap and the nation's sports writers," Onyeani stated. "What this means is that my contributions are being watched even when I am unaware. I am now motivated to surpass my previous achievements in helping our youth develop their natural talents."

While his teams have faced a challenging run in their respective leagues recently, Onyeani remained undeterred, citing "bold repositioning" currently underway.
Onyeani’s confidence is rooted in his teams' history of punching above their weight. He pointed to a landmark victory last year where his side stunned two-time CAF Champions League winners, Enyimba FC of Aba, during the Abia State FA Cup.
He said his ultimate goal was to move beyond local upsets and establish his clubs as dominant forces across the African continent.
The Newstap/SWAN Five Star Award is a benchmark for excellence in Nigerian sports.
