UD Almeria took another step towards promotion to LaLiga after Monday's 3-0 league triumph over Cultural Leonesa, much to the delight of part-owner Cristiano Ronaldo.

The result, Almeria's fifth win in six league games, lifted the team to second in Spain's second tier, a position that would guarantee the Andalusian club automatic promotion at the end of the season.

Ronaldo, who acquired a 25% stake of UD Almeria earlier this month, was among the first to congratulate the team.

Ronaldo, 41, wrote on Instagram: "Great win today. We continue."

The Al Nassr captain is in Madrid recovering from a hamstring injury.

Not since November have Almeria held an automatic promotion spot in the standings.

"This is where we all want to be, but the important thing is to be there by matchday 42," Almeria coach Juan Francesc Ferrer 'Rubi' said after Monday's game.

"We have to keep our feet on the ground because there are 39 points left to play for. The squad is ready. We've brought in young players, but also veterans, who have arrived with the enthusiasm of a child. Some of them know this could be their first major achievement in their sporting careers."

Relegated to the second division in April 2024, Almeria were taken over by a Saudi Investment group in May 2025. They are four points adrift of leaders Racing Santander after 29 games.
