Rotary International District 9111 has given a charter certificate to Rotary Club of Alagbado Urban, making it the newest in the over 80-club district. Presenting the certificate, District 9111 Governor, Henry Akinyele, lauded the members, urging them to execute public image and service projects.

He asked them to uphold the core values of truth, integrity and trust. Akinyele noted that the growth of the club depended on everyone and not officers alone.

Charter President, Abas Fawole, said: “As a newly chartered club, Rotary Club of Alagbado Urban is poised to contribute meaningfully to service initiatives, focusing on key areas, such as disease prevention, education, economic empowerment, and community development.

“The Charter presentation will not only celebrate the club’s birth but also set the tone for impactful service projects that will benefit communities within and beyond Alagbado community, in Lagos.’’

On what led to the formation of the club, he said a lot of people had been following up with him to join Rotary. When he moved to the estate in Alagbado, in front of the African Independent Television (AIT) - we call it Esado Estate, he met residents of like minds, and they had the urge to form the club.

.”And at the same time, when I visited Tomia Public Secondary and Primary School, I could see that a lot of development was needed in that school. The toilet was nothing to write home about, most of the classrooms were dilapidated. So, I called a couple of my friends—which one of them today is the incoming president, Peter Olusanya. They agreed to do something. That’s how we formed the Rotary Club.

‘’And by the grace of God, we are going to use it to innovate the public toilet in that school and put some of the classrooms in proper places, so that we know at least we are contributing to our environment, immediate environment.’’

Abbas continued: ‘’We have never joined any club. We are all corporate guys. I work in Premium Trust as the Regional Head for Lagos. Peter Olushola is the Regional Sales Manager for Dangote for Southwest. And Adedigba Abiose is a branch manager of Wema Bank in Allen. We have a whole lot of professionals in the club.’’

He said their star project is renovation of the toilet and putting of a borehole at Tomia Primary and Secondary School in Alagbado at the cost of between N15million and N20 million, they hoped to complete between now and June.

The club’s Adviser, Rotarian Adelusi Adeniyi, expressed excitement at the ceremony.

He said they formed the club last year, from Rotary Club of Abule Egba Metro, the sponsoring club.

‘’This is the third club we are forming. We are very, very happy. You can see Rotary Club of Abule-Egba Metro members are here to support them,’’ he added.

The incoming President, Rotary Club of Alagbado Urban, Rotarian Peter Sylvester Olusanya, described the new club as very innovative and assured of its rapid growth.

On the kind of club to look up to in the next two to three years, he said: ‘’I can assure you that what you are seeing, or what you will be seeing in the future, is going to be Rotary Club of Alagbado Urban and others. We are going to build ourselves to supersede any other Rotary Club before now.’’

Secretary, Rotary Club of Alagbado Urban, Emmanuel Abiose, described the day as ‘’glorious for the club. Today marks the charter of Rotary Club of Alagbado Urban.

We are here with our parent club, Abule Egba Metro. We are also here with the club adviser and executives of our parent club to help us grace the occasion. It’s been a very long time, a lot of hustle-bustle trying to ensure that the club stands, and we return all glory to God in making this day a reality.
