Rotary International District 9111 Committee for Elders has donated some items to Old Peoples Home in Yaba, Lagos.

The items, which include rice, wheelchairs, maching machine, and plastic chairs were worth N1.5 million.

Making the donation, District 9111 Governor, Prince Henry Akinyele, said: “This is to show our commitment to service and to show that the elders deserve to be pampered and to be properly taken care of.

‘’As Rotarians, we believe in serving humanity, in giving and giving. So, we will always come to see the areas of need and we will always support those factors and present these to you.’’

Akinyele added that the items were based on the needs assessment they carried out.

Chairman, Mr. Olaniyan Fafowora, said giving to elders is the main objective of the committee. He lauded the programme, saying they would return in future to give more.

Director of Elders Care Services, Mrs Adetutu Ipaye, praised the donors for the gesture. She announced that soon they would open a day care centre to cater to the needs of the society.  ‘’We want to make sure every citizen’s need is met,’’ she said.

A major highlight of the event was a visitation to the inmates who they sang with.

One of them prayed for the Rotarians. At the event were past assistant governors, Sola Benson; Kehinde Amao; and Ronke Akanni and Akeem Babs.
