Veteran actor Roy De Nani has opened up about years of professional setbacks and personal tragedy, including an alleged unofficial blacklisting from the movie industry and the loss of his children to complications from sickle cell disorder.
Speaking on the ‘Where Is the Lie’ podcast, the actor claimed that an unnamed individual once directed producers not to offer him acting roles, effectively shutting him out of the industry for years.
He recalled occasions when producers allegedly stopped film recordings midway after receiving instructions to remove him from projects.
“A man gave an order that nobody should give Roy De Nani a job again. For years, even when I was already recording, a producer would come in and say, ‘No, cancel it. Stop,” he said.
De Nani also spoke about the loneliness he experienced following the death of his brother, revealing that none of his colleagues in the entertainment industry attended the funeral.
“I have a brother from the same father. When he died, not a single actor or actress showed up,” he said.
He described an even greater loss when both his son and daughter died because he could not afford the blood transfusions they needed to manage their sickle cell condition.
“I lost my son, I lost my daughter because they needed blood transfusions so they could continue living, but there was no money to buy the blood, and they died,” he said.
The actor said the industry did not aid him during the crisis, though he stated this might stem from a lack of awareness rather than indifference.
“Nollywood never came to assist me. Not that they don’t care, but they have not been touched. Let it be said that way,” he added.
