Nigeria’s U-17 women’s team, the Flamingos, delivered an emphatic 7–0 victory over Nazareth Queens yesterday, underlining their growing confidence and attacking firepower ahead of the FIFA Under 17 Women's World Cup Qualifiers against Guinea.
The dominant display saw the Flamingos take early control of the encounter, with Wuraola Deborah Olayiwola opening the scoring in the 8th minute. Oluebube Jessica Umejiaku doubled the advantage in the 34th minute to give Nigeria a comfortable 2–0 lead at halftime.
The second half, however, showcased the team’s ruthless edge, as they overwhelmed their opponents with a flurry of goals. Harmony Chidi struck twice in quick succession, scoring in the 48th and 54th minutes to extend the lead.
Oluwakemi Adegbuyi made it five from the penalty spot in the 59th minute, before Islamiyat Oluwatosin Yusuf added the sixth just three minutes later. Favour Enodumwenben then completed the rout with a 67th -minute strike to seal an outstanding performance.

The victory marks back-to-back commanding wins for the Flamingos, following their 6–0 triumph over Generation Next, a run that reflects a team building strong momentum ahead of the 2026 FIFA U-17 Women’s World Cup qualifiers against Guinea.
Beyond the action on the pitch, the team received a morale-boosting visit from former Super Falcons goalkeeper Precious Dede, who spent time with the players after the match. Dede, a former Flamingos assistant coach, presented training equipment she personally purchased for the team and offered words of encouragement.
Her message to the young players was clear and purposeful: they must remain focused, disciplined, and driven in their pursuit of excellence.
“Stay hungry. Stay disciplined. The top is within reach,” she urged.
The visit served as a reminder of the importance of mentorship and belief, as experience met ambition in a moment designed to inspire the next generation of Nigerian stars.
